New axe designs aren't new, and that one looks painful on the wrists with its designed twisting motion on impact. For my money, I'd go with a Chopper 1 for cleverness:

My father has an old one; it makes the wood fly apart. instead of transferring the downward kinetic energy into rotational energy, it uses it to push the two sides apart with a pair of levers built into the axe head that push outward when the axe is partway in.
