In Brazil, there is an independent body of prosecutors, the Public Ministry. They mostly prosecute cases of wrongdoing by the police or public officials.

Enter PEC #37, a proposal to amend the Constitution. It would restrict criminal investigation to state and federal polices only, likely stopping and preventing a number of future investigations on corruption, organized crime, abuses of power, violations of human rights.
