New Behavioral Conduct Policy - MUST READ
Posted by: Steph T (IP Logged)
Date: August 20, 2016 02:29PM

We are implementing a new behavioral conduct policy, effective immediately.

Please review the policy here:
drive.google.com

Ask any questions below.

Once you have read and understand, please reply to this thread, "I have read and accept the FI2 Behavioral Conduct Policy."

Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen, including but not limited to Ducky, Eli, Spaige, and all of our Titanium Feather Initiative volunteers.

Thumbs up! Is there an appropriate place for feedback/suggestions? Somewhere in the PEL for instance? (this might be a better Facebook question to not derail the purpose of this thread, I'm realizing, so I'll ask there)

Alright, I have 2 points or suggestions based on a few things that stuck out to me:

1. I like the idea of communicating and negotiating a particularly tense scene ahead of time, to make sure that everyone involved is cool with it. However, we don't really have any sort of out of game mechanics besides our safety calls. I could see "clarify" being the best call we currently have to be adapted to this system, as in "clarify, are you cool if I completely explode on you and start yelling at you over this right now?", but I could also see these kind of out of game negotiations taking longer than is expected for a clarify. So I think it would be useful to either mention that clarify is the best call to use in this situation, or create some new sort of sign or call to do this. I think it would be a good idea to have an OOG type call here, just to cut out any sort of possible confusion as to whether or not the conversation is IG or OOG.

2. I like the hand signal idea, as it worked really well at NWM, but I'm not sure about the part where the response is either a thumbs up or no response, especially if it's being used in a group setting. It's a somewhat inconspicuous signal and I could see people not noticing it, and then roleplay stopping due to the fact that someone didn't respond when they just didn't see it. Then there might be an awkward conversation afterwards if everyone moves away and they're confused, etc. etc. I think it would be better to a have a definitive symbol for "hey I'm not cool with this". I understand not wanting to put the pressure on someone to say "no" because they might feel like they're letting people down, but everyone will still know that's what they're doing if they don't respond, so it might just be better to have a definitive yes/no (or even a "maybe, let's talk about it") response. We could always err on the side of caution and assume if someone doesn't respond and is silent that they don't want to continue, I just think this could clear up some possible confusion.

These are just really minor points (even though I wrote a lot about them for some reason) but I feel they might help to cut down on confusion, especially since our system hasn't really had any sort of rules for out of character checks and conversations before, besides safety and clarify calls.

I have some personal statements relating directly to this policy:

If anyone would like to inform me about subjects to absolutely avoid around them, please feel free to contact me privately here or on Facebook (if we aren't already Friends (tm) on FB, I'm "Fox Bolton"). I will do my best to check during game if I think a subject is dicey, but I'd like to Pre-Negotiate wherever possible, and continue to have wonderful, occasionally twisted roleplay interactions with you all.

Also, if I am understanding this correctly: The option exists, if you are uncomfortable speaking to me for any reason, to speak to a Titanium Feather Representative- if a subject that I have explored in the past (or if anything I roleplay about in the future) made/makes you uncomfortable, I would like to be aware of it! If I hear from a Titanium Feather that an anonymous player was uncomfortable with X and wanted them to inform me, I will make an earnest effort to handsign-check whenever I'm going to deal with X in the future.

I will publicly state that as long as you adhere to the established policies on real-world harassment, I am willing to explore 99% of sensitive subjects, and I will take personal responsibility to inform you if I find a subject too uncomfortable OOG. (That said, if you know a subject is potentially offensive or uncomfortable, please follow policy and Pre-Negotiate the subject with me). LARP is, among other things, a place to explore that with which we are not comfortable with in our Real Lives, and to tell wonderful (and terrible) stories collaboratively.

I agree with BasilMike that there should be explicit acknowledgement of the checkin handsign, rather than no response meaning 'not ok,' because of the potential for missing a handsign on both sides of the interaction.

And friends, please do not hesitate to use your Titanium Feathers. Remember that we are here to make sure you feel like you are in a safe and comfortable environment, and it's alright to come to us even if you aren't sure if something was over the line. We can help you make that determination and decide what action you want to take (if any).

Also, we're fallible humans too, and since we are holding ourselves to a high standard, we also want you to let us know if anything we're doing is making you feel unsafe. It's not tattling; it's creating a more considerate community.

I've read and accept it.

Questions:
What do I do if I need to discuss an incident now/at game and everyone is busy/not on duty/offsite due to reasons?

Are we able to ask the med tech to help us locate a titanium feather person if we don't want to talk to players about it?

Idea Suggestion:
Will there be a radio channel set up for the titanium feather people so that we can contact them quicker?

I purposefully selected a dozen people with an extremely varied social coverage precisely to avoid that situation. I don't foresee it being an issue.

We've specifically agreed to drop absolutely everything and make ourselves available to talk to. There is also a good mix of players and cast, but honestly I think this coming season we need to be mindful of this. Is there actually someone always available? And also, to a lesser extent, are the Titanium feathers spending significant game time talking to others? All good things for feedback as the events actually happen!

When does / Did this policy go into effect? I have had some people talk with me about things that may have been done, talked about and dealt with in the past being pulled into this new set of rules.

It would be fair to assume that these Rules are and have only been in effect since
Date: August 20, 2016 02:29PM

As that is the first time the player base has seen them. Is this correct?

That is correct. There are no retroactive rulings, reports, or punishments that players would be held responsible for prior to reading and acknowledging this new policy. (PS: Please post "I have read and accept the FI2 Behavioral Conduct Policy." if this is acceptable to you).
