Minimum Prop Requirements And Site Property

Greetings FI community!

It has come to the attention of the Staff that there is some uncertainty about using Ye Olde Commons property as physreps for player built devices.

We understand that the real world cost of building device props can be a hindrance, and we do not set an artistic requirement on devices. You're not expected to break the bank making devices, but you cannot acquire free device props by attaching device tags to furniture, buildings, or other infrastructure that belongs to the camp.

You must always provide your own prop (physrep) for a device. It is acceptable for this prop to be something that sits on a table, attaches to a surface (such as a keypad), or mounts on a piece of furniture (provided it doesn't damage anything).

None of the above can replace the need for a prop to meet its size requirements (as determined by the blueprint). If you design a Bulky device, you cannot attach the device tag to a chair in the Commissary and consider this a completed prop.

If you have any questions about this policy, please leave a comment here or submit a help ticket.

An outhouse like isolation chamber spring tent with light wire ect. decorations that fits over an easy chair would be legit?

so, two questions:

If a cast member comes to us, looking for a device, be it for the various stations in the woods, or say a device that produces respirators, can we get UP for the cash we spend outside of game on the prop, especially if its something that will be used by the game?

For things that we sell to cast, and are not going to be used in the game, how do you feel about packaging up devices, in a shipping box or something? That way, we don't have to spend time and money on a prop that will never be seen, but it still looks decent? Amps are easy to sell. There are free containers in the science center. But, devices cost oog money, and require you to know before game that a sale will happen. A generic mechanism for wrapping up a device for sale would be useful. That will also allow engineers to hand a box to another player, and that player can bring it back to their cabin, and come out with their own supplied prop/

You can use the provided seating (with the usual caveat of not damaging it and returning it to where you found it) with your devices. The seating just shouldn't BE the device. Your example should be perfectly fine.

For the couple of people who have made arrangements to export devices, they have already heard my clarification on this, so I will repeat it here for everyone!

If you make arrangements to sell and export devices, it is perfectly acceptable to place the device tags (with relevant red/yellow stickers attached) into a shipping container (cardboard box) and pass this along to the buyer. This is also acceptable for passing devices along to players that plan to provide their own physreps.

We could build them with sheet rock screws and that would break down to a stack of six sides. And be reusable for anything.
All we need is radiological and bio-hazard stickers and we are good to go.

Yes overkill from me as usual smiling smiley

This seems like a very reasonable and non-disruptive way to create and sell devices IG (especially for carpooling and/or low-budget engineer players!). Would staff be amenable to Stickying this post (or adding this suggestion to the FAQ) for future players' reference?

Thank you for the clarification!

Steph is Master of the Message Boards. If you ask her nicely, she may make this a sticky. I have not managed to convince her yet.

I'll try to pull a few bits out and rephrase them as Questions and pop them into the FAQ.

If the tag is inside may just want to mark the box Heavy # if it takes special consideration to carry.
But no one would ever try to rob you or anything...

Don't worry, I'm printing up more Crate tags just for this reason.

Do we need real crates? Or is there another convention?

Cardboard boxes are the standard, along side the plastic storage totes we use for general FI prop storage.

If it's in the FAQ, I don't want to clutter the board with extra stickies. Thanks for FAQ initiative BP!

Well then I guess I better figure out how to make all these things fit into an FAQ. @#$%&.
