does reheating in the microwave count as "cooking"?

Breakfast will be served at 8:30am so there will be time to eat OOG before game starts. I got an email from YOC asking what percentage I expect to be buying their food service. I went into the pre-reg list and saw that everyone had no next to food which I think might have been an issue with the reg page. There were two buttons (don't want food & will buy food at YOC), but I think both of those options posted a "no" to the reg list which is completely my fault for not noticing that before we went live with pre-reg..

Anyway, short story long.. Can you please post here or PM me if you are planning to, or already did, buy the meal plan at YOC so I can give Harold some estimated numbers.

Microwave is safe to use without a certified person on hand. It's just kind of old. They have a coffee maker, and it is kind of old too. We just always bring our own 40cup percolators. There's a Keurig machine also if you have your own k-cups. (I don't know how much Harold charges for the k-cups they have available.)

Harold doesn't mind if you bring your own appliances. We've used blenders, ice cream machines, chocolate fountains, crock pots, and many other things. If someone brings a small microwave to reheat stuff, that shouldn't be a problem.

As to having stuff made and then brought out at YOC? I think that depends on if the kitchen staff is in the kitchen prepping breakfast or dinner. It's not a huge kitchen. I've never been there when they do the meal plan, but I know when we cook for our events. There isn't a lot of room in or on the stove.

They do have a very large walk in Fridge though. If you want to pre-cook something and store it until it can be heated up later. That shouldn't be an issue.

Jeremy

Edit to Add: I'll be trying out the YOC meal plan for Spring1.

CAST MEMBERS for the meal plan, please reply to a separate thread on the cast boards, so I don't have to weed through these ones to find you.

Thank you kindly!

I will be taking the meal plan.

For what it's worth, there's a link on the YOC page to pay for meal plans. Dunno if we're going to utilize that system but it is there.

As a heads up with YOC dining, meals can be purchased individually. When Bill and I were seriously strapped for cash, we ran offsite for our breakfasts (there's a Dunkin's a few miles in either direction on 20 and a McD's to the West). We were able to purchase just the dinner from YOC and save a few bucks. This is also handy if you can't make the entire event because RL gets in the way somehow.

That being said, YOC's breakfasts are awesome!

There's also an honor system utilizing prepurchased Kitchen Cash which can be used for sodas, K-cups, and snacks throughout the weekend. I think if there's enough demand, Harald stocks sandwiches on Saturday midday, too. There's a price list on the front or side of the refrigerator (all in round dollars). There's also an Honor Cash Box, if you happen to carry cash on you during the event and want to purchase anything. (Most folks I know lock everything up in their cars, though.)
