Spring Season - Food!
Posted by: Anthony L (IP Logged)

Ye Olde Commons charges $23 for their meal plan. I've never personally been at a game at Ye Olde Commons but I have been there for a feast and I can say the food was very good!

Ye Olde Commons does NOT differentiate between Cast and Player, all participants who want to eat the meals must pay. We at Future Imperfect would love our cast to eat for free and are asking our players to help us out with this.. With that being said, we are going to put up donations called "feed a cast", one of these donations will be posted for each cast member who registers for an event. These donations will be 25 UP for $23.

I will continue to do the "Free Born Lunch" as I have at past Future Imperfect events. If you are not familiar with these, I do this near my camp site and charge in and/or out of game donations. In the past this has worked out very well for everyone who has attended so I don't see a reason to change it. If you've never been to my Free Born Lunch you should stop by, it's amazing how inspirational a "Shot of Beans" can be!

"Free Born Lunch" is NOT an official Future Imperfect meal. It is a player run lunch for the Citizens of Catalyst.

Guys, guys, I can only eat one meal. I know you all love me best, but easier by far on the bookkeeping not to let this favoritism show. winking smiley

(Silly!)

Is the YoC meal plan the same as the old meal plan? (Two breakfasts and a dinner).
Or does it also include Saturday lunch?

Same basic structure of two breakfasts and a dinner, but if its the same as other games I've played at YOC, each is done buffet style, the food fare is a bit simpler but better (opinion). Breakfasts tend to include waffle machine access, omelette bar, and other such fun morning noms. Dinners are also buffet style, and tend to include veggie options for the non-carnivores.

Buffet tends to imply All You Can Eat. Is this the case? (Those are dangerous words for me)

There is a finite amount of food, although I have generally seen that there are ample seconds for those who like such things.

Perhaps "family style" would be a better phrasing?

Probably so. Ever been to the Olde Country Buffet?

Note to self. Take last seating, let everyone else eat first

At a game I play there, which is a 24 hour larp, they serve breakfast around 10:30/11. Do we have the option of the 9 am breakfast?

Re: Spring Season - Food!

I was wondering about meal times as well. With 9am being Game On, I was hoping for earlier to avoid anyone having to say "if anyone steals my bacon, they're getting shot" as they leave to defend the Colony.

Now I am tempted to steal your bacon just because.

And Maben would never steal bacon.

Because that would be bad.

Keep in mind that if the players are being fed, so are the cast. So expect any attacks or major plots to happen after the cast has been well fed.

Yah, meals are an all-together affair at YOC, so if cast is eating meal on site, its likely to be right next to you.

So, really, unless we decide to run Bacon Thief plot, the idea of which does have merit (though I prefer to wait around to be the Chocolate Thief)... your bacon ought to be relatively safe.

If Maben turns into the Bacon Bandit, I'll have loads of fun trying to balance duty with sarcasm while arresting her.

No, no no. Walter saw to it that boars died out. Unless Mother decides boars are an important part of terraforming, there will be no bacon, thus no bacon thieves. And we can all blame Walter.

Guys, guys, boars only died out in a 50-mile radius. I would totally go further than that to hunt some bacon. Turkey bacon is an affront to the bacon gods.

Don't worry, we'll be able to find some boar, given my bunker-mates.

...Easy there, Vos. I'm not talking about you!

Hey, we already have Doc J making chocolate at the autoforge. How much of a stretch is it to have someone making bacon at the autoforge? Insert protein and lipids. Press button. Receive bacon. Who wouldn't like that? Except, of course, the cast/setup crew who'd have to accommodate the need for insta-bacon somehow.

Just spend a research cycle on the Procedure, and it too could be yours.

On a related note, is turkey bacon still sacrilege if we make it out of a Grinnerdactyl?

I was going to offer to bring a microwave to make extra bacon, but thought it would sound silly. Having gotten to the end of the thread, I can't imagine what I was afraid of

Apologies for starting all this bacon nonsense.

Actually, blame Pulse. I was paraphrasing him originally. XD

Being kosher, I support the idea of there being turkey bacon (yes, the irony of playing a boar hunter has been pointed out).

Okay, so I thought it was clear that folks were joking, but since I just had to answer a serious question abou it...

No, there will not be any choosing of which cast member gets fed by the person donating, or any other such shenanigans. Cast members, fret not.

The eBoard is still hammering out how it will work, but of course it will be equitable to all pre-registered cast members.

Derek, can I borrow that whiskey bottle?

Speaking as a seasoned Vet of going to, running, or helping run events at YOC. There is a microwave on site that can be used, but I've never trusted it. Also, any and all cooking has to be done int he kitchen under the supervision of someone with ServSafe certification. (We always cook our own food and have never used the YOC meals plan.)

I've never made it to one of these Free Born lunches, but if there's no cooking involved. You should be fine to have them by your "camp."

We ran into the same issue previously as there is actual prepared food. The way it was handled was that the food was prepared in the kitchen under the proper supervision and then served outside in a more IG-friendly setting around a fire. It seems like the same would be possible at YOC.
